The Pininfarina story
2026
The first car I ever bought was a 1983 Pininfarina Azzura.. and you probably wouldn’t believe how much I paid for it.
We always hear old timers say things like, “My first car was a Mustang I bought for $500.”
Sure, grandpa. In today’s world you can barely buy a running lawn mower for that kind of money. Even a rough Honda Fit costs a few thousand dollars.
Somehow, through mutual connections, I was introduced to a man looking to part ways with his mint 1983 Pininfarina Azzura. With a little negotiation, he offered me the car for $500 under one condition:
That I would actually drive it.
I called him immediately and asked if I could come see the car in person. I told him if it was as clean as he described, I’d buy it on the spot.
My dad drove me to his house and honestly, the car was in better condition than I expected. Clean paint, clean interior, no nonsense. I handed him the $500 and drove the car home the very same day.
I wasn’t looking for a car at the time, but a miraculous opportunity fell into my lap.
As my brother would say, “Say yes to everything and keep your head on a swivel.”
